Y.D.M Labs
Y.D.M. Lab’s are Eddy Somiren and Gregory Backerman, both immigrated to Israel when they where young.
Eddy (45) is in to music since he was young and learned to play the piano. As he grow up he discovered the wonders of electronics and synthesizers, became a sound engineer and learned to master a recording studio. Lately he got in to “loops” and started experimenting and twisting well known Israeli oldies into new dance shapes. And then he met Gregory...
Gregory (49) as been in ‘business’ for a long time but he was always attracted to show biz… He his the owner of the hype Tel-Aviv disco-clubs “Yosefina” and “Sanbo” (which is also a hostel for young and adventures tourists) and before that was a rock club, hosting some of the most famous rock bands in Israel.
Gregory and Eddy found in each other the vision they where looking for and started working on the Y.D.M. Lab’s project with the help of one of Israel’s most known producers David Rosenthal who also contributed some vocal tracks as a raper for the first time in his life… The album named ‘A Research Report’, was released on CD at the end of 1996 and became very popular at discotheques.
While promoting the album they appeared on many entertainment TV shows displaying a funny behavior, a provocative and colorful look… This was also expressed when they produced their video clips “Nancy” and “Closed Kinder Garden” (that was censored at the beginning!) twisting the original meaning of the songs in to new hemispheres, with the brilliant assistance of the director and photographer Ariel Semel.
